Throughout my years at UHN, I’ve become accustomed to being known as the guy who can’t pass a garbage or recycling bin without taking a quick peek in.  Well you can imagine, then, how thrilled I was to learn that we were going to have a guest who was as interested in things garbage as I.

And not just any guest, but Ontario’s Minister of the Environment, the Honourable John Wilkinson, who was going to drop by Toronto General Hospital for a tour of UHN’s trashy side and to get a first-hand glimpse into waste management opportunities in healthcare.

And what it a tour it was…starting on a “typical” inpatient unit and following the garbage trail down to the waste loading dock, the group peeked in a bin or two, talked a little trash, and generally had about as much fun as one can have when…well…looking at garbage.  Which, in my humble opinion, is something we all should be doing a little more of.

All goes to show you, that one person’s trash is another person’s tour…
