My name is Songyang Hu, UHN’s new Embedded Energy Manager. I started just over a month ago. This position is funded in part by the Ontario Power Authority to help UHN identify energy saving opportunities and implement energy retrofit measures.
I used to work for a few engineering consulting firms and an energy services company. As a mechanical engineer I helped our clients save energy without compromising the comfort level in their buildings. My scope of work included heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and building envelope. The best rewards for my previous jobs were lower utility bills for our clients and smaller environmental footprint for numerous buildings.
Over the past few weeks, I have visited several of the UHN hospitals and met a lot of great people. It’s amazing to see so many people working so hard behind the scene to keep this huge organization running smoothly. I am confident that by working together we can do our part for Mother Nature.
