2023:

  • Winter Commute Month: All February long, clean up your commute (walk, bike, transit, carpool, EV, anything but driving alone in a gas-burning car), then tweet your commute using emojies and the hashtags #Toronto #MyWinterCommute.
  • Seedy Saturday: Feb 26, 10 am – 2 pm launch. Community events to exchange seeds to start your edible garden, plus speakers, panel discussions, and activities. Happens a few Saturdays in March too.
  • #GreatBigCrunch: Mar 9, 1 pm: to celebrate healthy food and food systems, bite into loud fresh fruit or veg (apples, carrots), share pics/video using #GreatBigCrunchUHN. A perfect team event (and it’s OK if it’s not at 1 pm sharp).
  • Earth Month: March 25 – April 30. Though Earth Day is April 22,  we will celebrate (virtually) across UHN for a whole month, starting with Earth Hour on March 25!!
  • Earth Hour: March 25, 8:30-9:30 pm – turn off the lights for climate action, by our friends at WWF. Try these ideas to cut fossil fuels at home, every hour of every day.
  • Tree-Planting and Nature Restoration: May 27, 9 am – 1 pm, Claireville Conservation Area, Brampton, RSVP
  • Indigenous Healing Garden – Planting Day: new date! June 9, 9:30 am – 1 PM, starting with a welcome ceremony at 9:30 and volunteer planting from 10 – 1. email green@uhn.ca to volunteer!
  • Bickle Grow Garden – Planting Day! tbd
  • Bike Month: From June 1-June 30, celebrate all things on 2 wheels for a clean-air commute. June 1 is the official Bike to Work Day.
  • Planting Day: Michener Gitigan June 7
  • Bicycle Maintenance Workshops: June tbd
  • Urban Agriculture Week: 2nd week in September, celebrate all we grow in TO.
  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Sep 30, time tbd, Michener Gitigan (Garden), corner of Elm x McCaul, all welcome, no RSVP necessary
  • Waste Reduction Week: Oct 16-22, take the #WasteReductionWeek Inter-Hospital Challenge!

All Year Long:

  • Cascades: a multi-organization initiative to address healthcare’s contribution to the climate crisis. Several events/month such as  “Climate, Health, and Healthcare: A Speaker Series for Health Professional Learners” .
  • Carbon Conversations: 6-week small-group sessions for those concerned about climate change but unsure of where to start. Brought to you by our friends at Carbon Conversations TO. Check back for more sessions.

2022 – Past

  • Bicycle Maintenance Workshop 2: Aug 10, (rescheduled!) Aug 24, 12 – 1 PM,
  • Urban Agriculture Week: 2nd week in September, celebrate all we grow in TO.

  • Medicine Teachings and Harvestings with Cynthia White, Wednesday, September 14, 11 am  – 12 pm, Michener Gitigan (Garden), Elm x McCaul

  • Gitigan Harvest Fridays: Oct 14th and 21,  drop in to help the harvest, anytime from 11 am – 1pm, Michener Gitigan, at the corner of Elm and McCaul. No experience necessary as Micah from Miinikaan will help guide you.
